Richard Linklater


Born: July 30, 1960


Richard Linklater is know for being a unique writer and director who got his start from the independant film circuit of the 1990's. Richard dropped out of college to work on an off shore oilrig, when he was at sea he would read liturature to pass the time. When he quit his job he began to attend many shows at local theatres and started haveing an interest in directiing. With the money he saved up from the oil rig he bought a "super 8" video camera and descided he would try making movies. He started a film society in 1985 and by 1988 he had his first full length film called “It's Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books”. Since then his credits include "Dazed and Confused", "Slacker"," School of rock",and "bad news bears". He is an inspiration to young writers and directers because his life shows that you dont need tons of money and the best equipment to become a succesful director, you only need vision.
